Rooted in Faith, Open to the World
FROM A MOVEMENT OF THE HEART TO A STRUCTURED HOPE
FROM A MOVEMENT OF THE HEART TO A STRUCTURED HOPE
Following the tragedy of August 4, 2020, a beautiful movement of solidarity immediately emerged within Saint Maroun Parish. Around Father Richard Abi Saleh, about twenty women, driven by deep compassion, mobilized to help those who had been affected.
This spontaneous commitment quickly became organized: volunteers received training in social work with the Good Shepherd Sisters and carried out family visits for more than a year. These encounters revealed deep distress, but also a strong desire for accompaniment and dignity.
Wishing to respond both to material needs and to the desire for autonomy, the volunteers created productive workshops. Several projects were launched with courage and generosity:
to redistribute donated clothing.
supported by MISSIO, aimed at producing a useful product and generating income.
to create social bonds and financial resources.
carrying valuable know-how and rich symbolic meaning.
These initiatives showed how powerful and meaningful volunteer commitment can be, but also how important it is to rely on a more structured organization, appropriate training, and continuity in support. This experience revealed the need for clear governance, lasting competencies, and a shared vision to build a strong and sustainable project. It therefore became necessary to better distinguish parish social action from the associative project, in order to allow for balanced and healthy development.
A Renewal Rooted in Faith and Commitment
From this realization and this valuable experience was born the association Beyt Mar Maroun, carried by the parish’s dynamic spirit of solidarity.
Our current approach aims to structure and strengthen this initiative in order to ensure its long-term sustainability.
We firmly believe that a living Christian community is recognized by its ability to listen, to serve, and to bring people together.
Beyt Mar Maroun aspires to be this home of fraternity, where faith is embodied in simplicity of heart, attentiveness to others, and quality of commitment.
Join us in writing the next chapter of this beautiful human and solidarity-driven journey.
